It’s not easy being a mom — particularly during a pandemic. Whether you have small children you’re having to homeschool or grown children you wish you could hug, this is a challenging time for moms all over the world. Pandemic stress is very real!
So with Mother’s Day around the corner, now’s the time to learn how to take care of yourself as a mom. While you may not be able to do the usual Mother’s Day celebration out on the town, this is a perfect opportunity to practice self-care and show yourself some love.
Here are 5 self care ideas for moms for this Mother’s Day:
Do a DIY spa day. Professional manis and pedis aren’t on the agenda this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pamper yourself and indulge in some Mother’s Day self care. Score some alone time in the bathroom, and put together a menu of DIY spa treatments like a foot soak, a face mask, a manicure, a salt scrub, etc. Turn on some soothing tunes and it’ll be just like you’re at a spa. Create a meditation date. While meditation is one of the best self care practices any day of the year, this Mother’s Day, make it into a date with yourself. Take a social media break. Social media is a great way to connect with friends and family, but it can also be draining, particularly now. If you’re having a hard time with the pandemic but you’re seeing images of happy, active families on social media, it can definitely bring you down. Use Mother’s Day as an opportunity to practice self care by opting out of Facebook, Instagram and your other social channels of choice. Instead of scrolling, use the time to practice self care through meditation, hang with your family, or cook a special meal.
Dance it out. Dancing is unbelievably freeing and while you can’t hit the studio, you can make a Tik Tok video with your family or practice a YouTube dance routine. Or, just put on your favorite music and dance like nobody’s watching (even if they are)! Dance all your cares and worries away.
Now that you’ve learned a self care idea for moms or two, hopefully you’ll spend Mother’s Day doting on yourself. Remember, self care for moms is incredibly important! Don’t neglect yourself on Mother’s Day or any other day of the year. You can’t pour from an empty cup so to be there fully for your family, you need to be there for yourself, first.
